Workvivo stood out as its mobile and desktop features could enable us to provide real-time, relevant information that could reach the right employees at the right time, with the added option of a live broadcast functionality

Employee Communications Manager at AIB
Why Workvivo?
Before Workvivo, AIB was using a traditional static intranet homepage, hosted on SharePoint, to share Group news and updates, with limited analytical functionality. What AIB really needed however, was a platform that would allow more employee-generated content and a modernized and measurable approach to internal comms.
AIB’s new platform needed to integrate smoothly with its existing systems and align with the company’s passion for innovative technology.
The company was also eager to create further ways leadership could engage with their teams and celebrate achievements.
Roísín Byrne, Employee Communications Manager at AIB shared: “When looking for a company that could help us modernize and elevate our internal communications, we found Workvivo.
Workvivo stood out as its mobile and desktop features could enable us to provide real-time, relevant information that could reach the right employees at the right time, with the added option of a live broadcast functionality.
Having the ability to measure effectiveness of our comms via the in-platform analytics was really important to us. In addition, the built-in secure survey, awards, events and newsletter tools would reduce the need for alternative stand-alone solutions.
Workvivo worked with AIB to roll out the new employee communications platform that combines the power of a social network, intranet, and employee desktop and mobile app into one familiar digital workplace experience.
When AIB celebrated one year of Workvivo, the feedback from across the Group was really positive.
The Workvivo effect
How are things looking for AIB since launching its Workvivo platform in June 2021?
A whopping 96% of its workforce have activated their accounts, and 97% of them use Workvivo every single month.
AIB’s Workvivo platform was shortlisted in the 2022 European Excellence Awards in the Internal Channel (Intranet, Digital Workplace & App) category.
And it’s not hard to see why when you consider that since launching Workvivo, AIB employees across every team have shared…
- 191,578 likes (that’s over 180 likes a day!)
- 4,368 posts
- 3,830 articles

AIB colleagues have been consistently engaging with company values too, with people tagging such values as Be One Team, Drive Progress, and Show Respect in their Workvivo posts.

Spaces and leadership comms
Leadership comms and accessibility
Workvivo’s Spaces have helped AIB’s leadership team connect with the wider organization.
Each of the company’s Executive Committee members has their own business area Space on the platform, giving them an accessible and convenient place to post video and article updates that help keep colleagues up to date on department news and information.
This means that the CEO and Executive Committee can directly communicate in a modern way to connect with, engage, and inform their colleagues in every department across the Group.
Sustainability Academy
Dedicated Spaces on the platform also mean colleagues can come together around a specific theme or interest.
One example is AIB’s Sustainability Academy, designed to support colleagues in their role and help them to understand how the company is supporting customers in their transition to a low-carbon future.
It also houses the most up-to-date training, regulations, and sustainability fundamentals.
Connected Customer Space
Meanwhile, the Connected Customer Space highlights all the great work happening around AIB in support of its customers. It also includes useful data such as AIB’s Spend Trend.
Talent Hub
And for colleagues looking to broaden their career horizons, the Talent Hub Space brings together all the career development supports available to colleagues, with a spotlight on open opportunities across the Group all year round.

Campaigns and Employee Awards
Another favorite for AIB is the Campaign Manager feature. Róisín shared that “it has given visibility of all campaigns running across the organisation, all while allowing teams to create, manage, and track the performance of campaigns from one central location.”
Some of the successful campaigns run by AIB in 2023 included…
12 days of Christmas
With an Advent calendar theme, AIB invited all colleagues to take part in their 12 Days of Christmas campaign. Utilising Workvivo features like Polls and Badges, there was plenty of fun trivia and hidden surprises.
Róisín described the campaign as “creating a sense of excitement and fantastic engagement, with a whopping 3,057 comments and 806 likes across the 12 days”.
Employee Value Awards
AIB’s employee awards are an opportunity for the company to recognize the many outstanding examples of times that colleagues step up for each other, their customers, and for the communities they serve. The awards celebrate colleagues who embrace and live the AIB values in their everyday interactions and they are a true showcase and example of all that the people in AIB do best.
Róisín said, “The Workvivo platform was instrumental in helping colleagues to nominate each other and explain why their chosen nominee deserved such an accolade, thereby further contributing to the rich culture of recognition and appreciation amongst peers”.
AIB used a combination of functionalities such as the Awards, Survey, Article, Shoutouts, Billboard, Banner, and Events to generate interest and momentum in the campaign.
“This resulted in over 3,000 award nominations and 17,000 votes, and a total of 69 finalists were sent forward to the live event, with live coverage throughout the evening captured on the platform.”

Employee surveys
Using Workvivo for its employee surveys has seen AIB achieve a response rate between 50% and 60% company-wide. (This is higher than the average across industries, which is 30% to 40%.)
It also produces actionable insights which help AIB develop and execute employee experience initiatives with ease and clarity.
Giles Barrett, Group Wellbeing Officer at AIB said: “Engagement surveys are our way to receive open and honest feedback from everyone who works at AIB, so that we can understand what is working well and what we can improve to make AIB a great place to work.
Using the Workvivo survey functionality meant that, for the first time, the engagement survey would be open to everyone in AIB Group (staff and contractors). As the survey is so easy to administer, it meant that the team could also survey the workforce more frequently, rather than just once a year.
Colleagues now have the opportunity to share their comments and suggestions through free text and our team could commit to updating people with the results shortly after the survey closed.
In response to feedback, Group actions could be created, with the opportunity to collaborate with each business area to identify further local actions.
Giles and his team worked closely with Workvivo Expert Services team to deliver the aib engage survey and had this to say: “Expert Services supported us in being agile in how we rolled out the survey, in how we developed actions to address issues raise by our workforce, and helped us evolve the survey questions and approach to react to our changing context be that COVID or hybrid working.”
